Ok so I have a dilemma on my hands which is do I want leather seats or do I want electric seats? Because I don't like decisions I'm wondering how difficult it would be to take the electric controls off my cloth seats and put them into the leather ones. I'm for some reason incorrectly using plurals... It's just the passenger seat that would need to go under the knife!

Just had a look at the underside of both my leather seats side by side for a quick comparison and it seems to me that a mechanical transplant is out of the question due to the fact that the majority of different parts involved are welded to the frame itself. That leads me to the conclusion that the only way to do it would be to swap the trim itself from one seat to the other.

Has anyone ever done this themselves or seem it done or is it always a case of using the pros? Either way I have a spare set of seats so it wouldn't be the end of the world but I like having electrics in my passenger seat as well as my driver! Would rather they were leather all round though...

All thoughts are most welcome!

Yes that's right, my insurance doesn't cover glass and I have a 12" and growing crack right down the passenger side of my windscreen...

Yes that's right, my insurance doesn't cover glass and I have a 12" and growing crack right down the passenger side of my windscreen...

Luckily I have a perfectly good replacement on my breaker.

Unfortunately it's bonded so noone will touch it...

So question is has anyone here ever risked trying to remove one of these themselves? Or do we know someone who has? Even if I can find a professional who isn't too much of a pussy to try it I'm happy to pay em, just noone wants to give it a go!

I don't want to pay 200+quid for this when I have a perfectly good screen right here but I don't want to dive in and wreck it because I haven't checked out the correct method beforehand...

As far as I can tell there are only 2 recommended methods and both involve wire. One is to use a braided/cutting wire and just give it hell with that and the other is to stick it on a battery and use the heat to do the cutting.

Frankly the former method seems to be just fine for me so I'd be happy to try that but I want to know some more about it before I just leap in and give it a try!

What kind of wire should I use? Where should I start? How can I clean the screen after removal? Should I remove the broken one as well and attempt to refit it personally? If I get a pro in once I've removed and cleaned the donor screen will they do the rest of the job for me? I want to get rid of this breaker and I want to get rid of this crack so I need to know what my best option is here.

Also a concern is that the crack was probably caused by a weakened T bar. There's clearly been corrosion at the top of the screen but again the same part on my breaker is in a very nice condition so could I chop them and swap them? Then fit the windscreen after? Could I do all of this in less than 1 day so I don't have to take the car off the road?

Answers on a postcard please, really need to get on and do this asap!

Did my first skydive today. Awesome. There is nothing, nothing, like it. I didn't get nervous at any point which is a bit weird but then I have 3 kids so that kinda prepares you for pretty much anything. 13000 feet up, nearly 3 miles. The freefall was incredible. 120 mph without a motor. The earth truly is a thing of beauty. Then after 45 seconds the parachute deploys and contrary to popular myth, you don't go up... The only thing noticably different was the volume. It goes really quiet. REALLY quiet. Then you can really have a good look around. Beautiful. I'd have no reservations about recommending it to any / everyone. It'll change your whole Outlook on things.

Sweet.

I've missed most of these this year but I got Prof to check last months out for me on his way home from work.

It appears to be running well again so would be good to have a zed presence once again. I rather not be the only zed as I was for months last year.

Would be nice to pop into the pub afterwards again I've forgotten it's name but I know how to get to it so if any one fancies Reading Jap Meet this month gets ya name's down and I'll be there and will direct us to the pub afterwards :)

basically i have a full unorthodox pulley set for a tt. i have fitted it to my na.

i have found out the pas pump pulley on a tt must sit out about 12 mm more then the na pump (also the na pum,p is a 3 toothed belt where as the tt one is a 4 toothed belt). this would have caused the belt to try and ride up off of the crank pulley. i have made an adaptor kit to allow me to use the tt pulley on the na pump.:)

i would assume this would be a problem with the tt boys using the na pas pump when they delete the hicas.
here is what i did ..

Happy man here really considering she is my daily drive.

Thanks for your help today Mark (Silverbullet) I would recommend him to anyone needing some work done.

Also if you get to go to the garage he uses you can see not 1, not 2 but at least 10 Ferraris - some race spec some just stunning like the testarossa!

I was close to buying the spl track rods ends ($220 excluding postage and customs) to compensate for lowering, which bring the track arms back to centre, correct funky steering arm angles and bump steer under suspension compression. Pretty simple really.

Heres what i have done. Still going through a few tests, the tracking is way out now so a full alignment will be needed, still haveent had it tracked since i fitted the lower arms i just lined it up best i could by eye.

Before spacing the rose joints:
notice the angle of the steering arms. WOW seriously out.

Heres what the setup looks like:

check out the corrected angle, much better:

I will take it for a few test drives just to make sure nothing bend/breaks or comes loose. I may have to change the size of the rod that attaches to the hub for more strength and safety but it may not need it.

Guys and girls.

Ive had this rattle for some time now, and its really starting to piss me off.

Basically its a top end whirring rattle, sounds like a blown bearing. Its completely intermittent make no odds whethers its hot or cold. it can be provoked by holding the revs at around 2.5k rpm - 3k rpm.

I can tell you its not:

Cambelt tensioner - new
Tensioner pulley - new
Idler pulleys - new
Water pump - new
A/C pump - Disconnected and rattle still present
Alternator - Disconnected and rattle still present
Power steering pump - Disconnected and rattle still present
Lifters - not a lifer noise, two oil changes havent improved/worsened it

Bullet beliefs the VVT springs are in a perfectly servicable condition.

Have a listen:

Back for the second time in 2010, we present another London Tunnel Run, hosted by MissBanzai.com inviting all Japanese car owners!

*** Note this...

Back for the second time in 2010, we present another London Tunnel Run, hosted by MissBanzai.com inviting all Japanese car owners!

*** Note this is for Japanese cars only -no exceptions.. non Jap cars will be refused entry ***

The run will kick off at Essex Arena (RM19 1AE) on Saturday 16th October from 9.30pm. Maps will be handed out on arrival to those who have pre-paid through the Just Giving site. There will be no entry to the site after 10.30pm.

Please register your attendance by visting http://www.justgiving.com/TunnelRunMissBanzai and donating your £5.00 entry fee. (Please put user name & club in the comments). Donations made via the Just Giving site will go direct to the nominated charity, The London Air Ambulance. This is MissBanzai's 5th tunnel run and we decided that having used and abused London's roads on so many occasions with no incidents we would pick this charity, as many drivers in London and the M25 area are not as lucky as we have been and The Air Ambulance is normally called for road traffic accidents. So we felt this would be a very worthwhile charity to raise money for on this occasion.

In comments please put your club name & forum user name - nothing else! (this list will be used to hand out the route maps of the run on the night -there *may* be a limited number of maps on the night BUT this is NOT guaranteed).

-Please arrive at the arena no earlier than 9.30pm. PLEASE NOTE you should use the go kart track entrance to the arena.
There will be a £1 per person cash charge entry fee on the gate to cover the arena hire costs.

-Payments for maps can only be taken up to 13:00 on 16th October on the Just Giving site. PLEASE DO NOT REGISTER AFTER THIS TIME or you will not be included on the list of maps for us to allocate on the night! If you do not pay you are not guaranteed a map.

-Entry is £5 for a map (prepay on Just Giving) and £1 per person in cash on the gate to the arena on the night to cover the arena costs.

-This event is for Japanese cars only.. nothing else! There will be marshalls on the gate.

-Please remember to drive responsibly -anyone not doing so will be asked to leave the site.

-You will need to bring sat nav / London A-Z for when you get lost. A passenger / map reader is also essential!

Sky Insurance will be awarding a prize on the night for the best turned out car of the evening. The prizes could be awarded to any Jap cars from Civics to Skylines... so get polishing!!! Prize to be confirmed
We will also have a few other sponsors who will be awarding prizes on the night.

Hope to see some of you there! Any questions, please drop a mail to missbanzai@googlemail.com or post your questions here! We had approx 300 cars from various different Jap car clubs along last time, and have raised over £4,524 online for various charities to date, so make sure you come along and be part of it this and help raise some cash for a very worthy cause!!

Just recieved this from My daughter and its a bit worrying that we have all left hotel keycards at a hotel

Always take a small magnet on your holiday, they come in handy at the end of it.

Thought you all needed to know this

This is pretty good info. Never even thought about key cards containing anything other than an access code for the room!

HOTEL KEY CARDS

Ever wonder what is on your magnetic key card?

Answer:
a. Customer's name
B. Customer's partial home address
c. Hotel room number
d. Check-in date and out dates
e. customer's credit card number and expiration date!

When you turn them in to the front desk your personal information is there for any employee to access by simply scanning the card in the hotel scanner.. An employee can take a hand full of cards home and using a scanning device, access the information onto a laptop computer and go shopping at your expense.

Simply put, hotels do not erase the information on these cards until an employee reissues the card to the next hotel guest. At that time, the new guest's information
is electronically 'overwritten' on the card and the previous guest's information is erased in the overwriting process.

But until the card is rewritten for the next guest, it usually is kept in a drawer at the front desk with YOUR INFORMATION ON IT!

The bottom line is:
Keep the cards, take them home with you, or destroy them.
NEVER leave them behind in the room or room wastebasket, and NEVER turn them into the front desk when you check out of a room.
They will not charge you for the card (it's illegal) and you'll be sure you are not leaving a lot of valuable personal information on it that could be easily lifted off with
any simple scanning device card reader.

For the same reason, if you arrive at the airport and discover you still have the card key in your pocket, do not toss it in an airport trash basket. Take it home and destroy it by cutting it up, especially through the electronic information strip!

If you have a small magnet, pass it across the magnetic strip several times. Then try it in the door, it will not work. It erases everything on the card.

Right Peeps, it’s time for another mountain run. So this weekend I'm off to Italy to drive a route that I've mapped out that takes me round lakes,...

Right Peeps, it’s time for another mountain run. So this weekend I'm off to Italy to drive a route that I've mapped out that takes me round lakes, mountains, loads more tunnels and through the "Park Nazionale Dello Stelvio" and the famous Stelvio Pass. :he:

I'm not in the Zed this time as that is back in the U.K. having its wheel straightened from the Summer Run when I had the car out here and the MOT and service is due. So I will be doing this in a hire car.
Its pot luck out here with car hire as to what you get when you pick up, I always book Golf but previously I have been given vans like a 7 seat Vauxhall Zafira and a Ford Focus C Max (usually Diesel). Not really ideal cars for throwing through mountain roads but I had my fingers crossed this week and it paid off.
They gave me a BMW 116i Tiptronic, Not a sports car but it's nippy, handles superbly and has good brakes which is by far the most important quality for mountain driving.

So on Friday I will take the motorway from Grenoble straight to Bergamo in Italy where I will stop for the night in a hotel.

Saturday morning after breakfast I will head straight for the bottom of lake Como and pick up the SS36 Autostrada, this runs right up the shore of lake Como via 17 tunnels? (I'll try and count them to make sure I've got it right?)
Carry on up the SS36 to Chiavenna and then toward St Moritz in Switzerland via the S37.

When I reach Chiavenna, if I have managed to get my arse out of bed early and time is on my hands I will instead head of towards Switzerland via the Splugen Pass to get to the San Bernardino Pass and drive it in both directions. The San Bernardino Pass has two roads, the old pass and a new road so will drive both. If I manage to do this I will head to St Moritz via the Julier Pass.

From St Moritz I will take the Bernina Pass to Tirano and then from Tirano via the S38 to Bormio. The S38 has about 6 tunnels along the way.

From Bormio the route is to continue along the S38 "Stilfserjoch", otherwise known as Stelvio Pass and then continue on to Merano.
From Merano I will take the SS44 to Flora via San Martino and San Leonardo, from the maps this looks like an Epic stretch of road. I hope so.

Then via the SS308 to Bolzano which again looks like a top road.

From Bolzano it's just a short run to Lake Kaltern and to the campsite for the night on the side of the lake.

On Sunday the route is to briefly head back on myself to pick up the SS43dir road to Cles. I will then take the SS43, SS42 to Dimaro. From Dimaro the S239 to Bolbeno and then the SS237 to Satche. I then pick up the SS45 to Riva Del Garda.

I will continue on the SS45 down the shore of Lake Garda and this road has something like 25 tunnels along its length so that should be fun. Continue on this road to Brescia and then pick up the motorway back to Grenoble.

I will write up a report next week.

well since totaling the better halfs bmw convertable i have had to relinquish my faithful old saxo for the time being (oh she is so impressed with using that :PMT:) and i have been forced to use the zed as my main car and i have to say i am pleasantly suprised, the fuel consumtion is bearable (50 miles a day) although now its being used every day a couple of niggles have arisen, first is the suspension ,i will have to getback under her and adjust the shocks as the ride is to firm on b roads, easy enough as the dials on the shocks are nice and free so turn with a nice click to each setting, the other prob is when i let her have her way and open the taps< sometimes the blooming injector connections (which dont have the metal clips on) work loose and she goes from smooth to massey ferguson in an instant lol, most annoying if you pass any one a little spiritedly and then have to pull over to push a bloody connecter back on to get all the cylinders back:blush5: but all in all enjoying the zed alot,i really am suprised and the road holding abilty (as was the last sport bike that thought the old girl would be easy prey on a b road :na:)

Alrighty then.................

While the missus was out today I thought I'd clean her car as she seems to think it has self cleaning paintwork and never bothers herself. Being that the paint is metallic black, I got half way through washing it down and Mr Sun comes out to make it nice and streaky. Got fed up and left the b*gger. She comes in and has a go 'cause her car is streaky, as if filthy looked better?

So, went into the garage and got the T-Cut out as the paint really is filthy. T-Cut wouldn't take any of the filth off, just moves it around so went and got the Farecla G3, used with loads of water cause I hate using it on metallic surfaces for fear of breaking through the lacquer. Nope, still filthy.

Now I can't be arsed doing this. it's not my car and I'm not the one who got it filthy but I'm pissed off because I bought it, it's registered in my name, my mates are taking the P and I hate seeing it looking unkempt.

So what's the answer apart from beating the wife to death? Was thinking of trying a clay bar over it to drag the crap out of the surface. Never used one before (though I understand the theory) but it seems the answer to getting the surface clean enough for a polish.

Anyone recommend a clay bar and detail polish which will do the job? I'm not after the very best on the market as detailing isn't my thing, I just want the paint clean so I'm not embarrassed to have the car on the driveway. Was thinking of the Meguiars clay bar and detail spray from Camskill as that comes to about £25 which I can justify for a one off cleaning session. Cheaper would be better though, as the Celica GT4 restoration has just about bankrupted me (funny, that's hers too).

Sorry for the moaning nature of this thread but I'm feeling sorry for myself and the car. I need beer and it needs a fettle.

Guys and girls

Thought id bring up a little issue that i had a while ago, and havent really done anything about it as i temporarily solved it.

When bullet and i completed an oil change a few months ago (well.... april but the car hasnt moved since) we put on an OEM Nissan oil filter.

However, when i started the car up, it ****ed oil out everywhere.

Now i know what your going to say, it wasnt done up properly... well.... it was. Ive done enough oil changes in my time to know how tight an oil filter should be, never mind bullet.

Something i will throw into the mix. Ive got a GReddy sandwich plate which provides my reading for my Defi Oil Temp gauge. Now for some reason the filter that was on the car (one from Japan which came with the sandwich plate) fits perfectly and doesnt leak, yet the replacement filter will not seal, at all!

I cant remember the site which i bought the sandwich kit from, and the filter only has jap writing on, with no discerable part number on it.

Has anyone else had problems with oil filters matching up to sandwich plates?

Nick
